Black Cardamom has many names such as moti elaichi and kala elaichi, they have a slightly smokier flavour to green cardamoms and are used extensively in Indian cooking like Biryani and Dal. Black Cardamom are much larger than the green cardamoms and offer a different flavour so they can not be substituted for one another.
