Garam masala is one type of masala that’s found in every kitchen and is used extensively in Indian cuisine. It can be used on its own as well as with other spice blends. The CJH spice mix for garam masala is roasted to bring out more flavour and aroma and then ground into a smooth powder. The word masala simply means ‘spices’ and garam means ‘hot’. Thus, the term garam masala literally translates to ‘hot spice mix’. However, garam masala doesn’t necessarily constitute a particularly spicy blend.
